Clothing Room (Monday, 1:30pm-6:00pm)
Whether it is Men’s, Women’s or Children’s clothing room day, the refugees flood into the Oasis’ main room when the doors open at 1:30pm and they are given a number. They then wait their turn to go in small groups to the clothing room where they have about ten minutes to pick out a couple articles of clothing.  Because there are so many people who come, and the numbers that are handed out reach high digits within minutes of opening the doors, many of the refugees are sitting in the main room of the Oasis for hours to have their turn.  The Oasis team serves the refugees coffee and tea and connects with those who are waiting.  It is a great time to get to know refugees.

Hair Cutting (Tuesday, 2:00pm-5:00pm)
A Korean missionary from Vienna who also happens to be a barber comes on Tuesdays and offers free haircuts on a first come, first serve basis.  This meets a practical need of many refugees and gives the Oasis team another opportunity to get to know those who are waiting their turn for a haircut.

Wednesday Night Meeting (Wednesday, 7:00pm-9:30pm)
It starts with a time of worship and then a message that is translated into as many of the languages represented as possible (point of prayer: the Oasis always needs Christian volunteers who speak the languages of the refugees to come and help translate).  Then there is a time of visiting with a cup of tea or coffee and some pastries!

Altenmarkt Kid’s Club (Thusday, 11:00am-10:00pm)
Half the team goes to the small town of Altenmarkt, about a 30 minute drive from the Oasis.  This town has a few pensions that house refugee families.  It is a beautiful, but isolated place that is difficult for refugees because there is no train that goes there, so the refugees can only travel on school days when the buses run to Altenmarkt.  There is a Bible lesson in German (most of the kids there have learned German) and a craft.  After the program the kids and their mom’s have an opportunity to pick out some clothing.  Then the Oasis team members divide up in small groups and go visit different families.

Coffee Bar (Thursday, 7:00pm-10:00pm)
Austria has a big café culture; they love their coffee! Coffee bar at the Oasis is probably one of the only places in Austria to get a free cup of coffee or tea.  Refugees come for a welcomed break from life in the “camp” (or Lager, as it is called here in Austria), for a friendly place to have a warm drink and visit with friends, and to watch a movie about Jesus the Messiah in their own language.  It is a great night for introducing people to the Oasis and the ministries that the Oasis offers.

Women’s Night (Friday, 7:00pm-9:30pm, once a month)
This program only happens once a month, but is a great time for the refugee women.  The women on the Oasis team decorate the room and make it a special evening for the women.  They get to hear a message, eat some goodies with their tea and coffee, and do a craft.  Since the camp has so many less women than men, it is a wonderful break for the women to be able to have a place to go where they can enjoy just being women!

The Oasis Team currently consists of eleven adults and four kids.  From the US there is Tom and JoAnn Richards who have three sons, Jonathan (who is at college in the states) Austin and Daniel (11 years at the Oasis), Carol Halm (18 years), Julie Soltis (11 years), Dan and Marie Lincoln and their two small children Anja and Zach (arrived in January, but were part of another ministry in Austria previously for 6 years) and us.  From Switzerland is Miriam Muller (18 years).  David Field is from Australia (3 years).  Eileen Kehoe is from Ireland (1 ½ years).  We are enjoying getting to know the team and hearing their stories from their time serving at the Oasis.
